ABOUT BRICK PLAYSTUDIO

Hello! My name is Jeong and I created an epic LEGO® play room for my kids. During the pandemic, my oldest son got really into building LEGO® sets. At the time, we were living in Korea and discovered a LEGO® room where kids could come in and build different sets. Unfortunately, as the pandemic continued to linger, the owner of the room decided to shut it down. I offered to buy all the sets from the owner with the idea of creating our own family LEGO® room. Fast forward one year and I’ve finally set up the room! I opened the room up to the Hobsonville community and received an overwhelmingly positive response. In order to make the experience more accessible, I’ve decided to partner with Mews Cafe as a pop-up location for the playroom on certain weekends. If it goes well, I may offer more in the future. If you are interested in partnering with me to offer a pop-up experience, please let me know!

FAQs

Do I have to book a session or can I just show up?

You can just show up, but advance booking is recommended since I will only be allowing 8 children at a time. If you show up without a booking and there are already 8 children, you will have to either wait or come back at another time. You can make bookings even 30 minutes before the start of the session.

Can I stay longer than 90 minutes?

Yes! Each additional 30 minutes you stay will be charged at a rate of $4.00 which is a 20% discount from the normal rate.

How does the discount work?

The first sibling is charged at the normal rate of $10 and each additional sibling is charged $8. Each additional 30 minutes, will be charged $4.00 (a 20% discount).

How many children will be in each session?

I am only allowing a max of 8 children per session. You do not need to make an advance booking, but if you show up as a walk in and there are already 8 children, you will have to either wait or come back at another time. For this reason, I would recommend booking in advance.

Do I have to stay with my child(ren)?

Yes. Although the founder, Jeong, will be overseeing the session, parents are still responsible for their kids and required to stay. Depending on how the session goes, this may change in the future.

Can adults build sets?

If there are enough spaces and you have a paying child, you can build alongside your child at no cost. If you are an adult who loves legos, you can pay and build on your own. 🙂

Can I bring my own snacks into the cafe?

Yes! Although we will be serving free instant coffee and tea, the normal cafe drinks & food menu will not be available, so you are more than welcome to bring your own food and drinks. However, in order to keep the lego bricks clean, kids will not be able to eat and build at the same time. They will need to be in the eating/drinking area of the cafe.

Who will be running the sessions?

The sessions will be run by the founder of Brick PlayStudio, Jeong Yi. He is a proud father of three beautiful children (3, 6, 9) and loves lego. He came up with the play room concept during the pandemic when his oldest son got really into legos at a similar play room in Korea. This will be the first time Jeong is trying a pop-up session at a cafe.

How many lego sets are there?

Brick PlayStudio has a catalogue of over 300 sets. However, not all the sets will be available during the pop-up session.  A selection of the most popular sets (around 200) will be available. There are beginner sets with fewer than 50 pieces which can be built in 5-10 minutes and advanced sets with over 1000 pieces which require hours and hours of building.

The cafe will be setup with wooden desks and movable brick organisers to sort pieces by color to build faster. All sets are labelled with an alphanumeric color code with laminated instructions to prevent damage.

Where is Cafe Mews located?

Cafe Mews is located at 65 Paul Matthews Road, Albany, Auckland 0632.

What is the recommended age?

There are a variety of sets from beginner-level to advanced. Since the small bricks can be a choking hazard for younger kids, the activity is recommended for children 4 years or older. You can bring children under 4 years for free, but they should not participate in the activity.

Will there be more sessions in the future?

This will depend on the feedback I receive. If there is a higher than expected demand with many families who want to attend in the future, I may open up more weekend sessions. I may also open up after school sessions.  If you would like to be informed on future updates, please enter your email in the subscribe form below the FAQ section or fill out the contact form with any questions you have.
